Searchers will continue looking for a 79-year-old woman, missing for six days in Pureora Forest and are warning hunters to be on the lookout for her.

Land Search and Rescue volunteers from across the Waikato, backed by the police Eagle helicopter with thermal imaging, have been looking for the woman who was reported missing last Saturday.

Police said the area had a thick canopy and was dotted with many streams.

In a statement Senior Constable Alastair Methven said a medical profile on the woman suggested she may become unresponsive and curl up in a small position.

The woman is described as of medium height, slim build and has grey hair.

She was last seen wearing trail type shoes, black pants, and possibly a silver jacket.

Police are contacting hunters and landowners and asking them to watch out for volunteers wearing high-vis orange clothes.

Easter is a big weekend for hunting and stags are currently in roar.

Police say safety of their searchers is a priority.
